This book also comes in two different formats.  One format is for use on a student's birthday.  The other format is to be used for general purposes in a Birthday Unit.  The student birthday format allows both you and the student to tailor the book to fit them.  The other format is a general birthday book.  In both formats, the page above allows the students to add the appropriate number of candles to the cake.  Both books are created in a full page, portrait format.  All text is at the bottom of the pages and is in an expanded format.  Sight words include: this, is, my, am, I, old.  Most vocabulary words supported by picture clues.   (8 - 10 pages)

This book was created as part of the Birthday Unit, but it could also stand on its own or as part of a Colors Unit.  Most pages follow the sentence frame above and moves through 10 colors.  Students color each cake to match the text on the page.  At the end of the book, they get to individualize the book to fit themselves.  Sight words used are: a, I, want, an, we, big, what, you, like, do, of.
